I am Kim owner /maker of the Kimberley Dawn Cushions website.
I am married to J with three grown up boys and 1 granddaughters. We live in beautiful Cornwall and I am indeed Cornish myself.
The cushion selling is now in its 8th year. It was started when I was made redundant from a soft furnishing company. It is a dream I never thought that I would be able to do, but with my passion for fabrics and a never ending urge to collect pieces, I created my shop. Florals are a particular favourite of mine with pinks and reds being my favoured colours.
Sewing has been with me as long as I can remember. I do not remember learning to sew just being allowed to make anything I wanted as my Mum always had knitting or sewing on the go. My first ever memory of my love of fabric was when my brother had a piece of green and black fabric in his hands and I wanted it. Thinking back I must have only been about 3 and the piece on fabric was probably a jacquard antimacassar from the back of the chair but the memory is so vivid , I wanted to stroke it and feel the texture and so the love was born. Later on I learnt to knit from my elderly next door neighbour ‘Jumbo’ and crochet from my Aunt. I was always doodling and drawing and so my love of all creative crafts was complete. Around the age of 10 I can remember trying to make a ball gown out of a pair of purple floral curtains. I was so pleased when I was sewing the gathered skirt to the top I had no pattern just cut it out and tried it on.
